Extremely rare one of a kind solid gold 1920 New York Sportsman Association Medal. The Dean Richmond Cup. This trophy was originally introduced in 1873 by Dean Richmond who was then president of the New York State Sportsman Association. This was given, as a challenge cup, for a three man team race at live pigeons.. The cup was won by The Forester Gun Club in 1877 but shortly after that date the club was dissolved and it's valuables disposed. This is what remains of the original introduction of that cup. It was won by R.L. Spotts, T.H. Lewis and W.S. Silkworth with a score of 418x450. The solid gold medal weighs in at 30 plus grams which includes the ruby. The medal was made by Robert Stoll medals and badges 12-16 John St. New York and has it's original box. Refer to the third edition of the 1921 Trapshooting the patriotic Sport for more information. Rare and spectacular 1888 Victorian gold and silver traveling live bird medal. This medal has the original ribbon and was awarded to the winner from the Eureka Gun Club. The medal features crossed shotguns on gold chains from the hanger with two velvet ribbons. A silver retriever holding a pigeon. A gold crest states “Champion 1888”. This medal has the original box and newspaper article of the winner a Mr. Abram Quick. Part of the article reads” The different prizes were then awarded by Mr. Ring, he accompanying each presentation by a brief speech,delivered in the happiest vein. According to the conditions of the first two prizes, on account of the inaccessibility of the present shooting grounds, only three members qualified by making the seven out of ten shoots. Abram Quick winning the handsome gold medal-a work of art, by the way cannot be duplicated for less than twenty five dollars. He made a top score of sixty- seven, another exemplication of the “Quick and the Dead”-Abe “Quick” and “dead” Birds. Tom Diffley,”the King” took second, a Winchester repeating rifle, with sixty-two”. A rare and original Annie Oakley Bronze Medal Hanger. A gold medal located under the hanger would be indicative of what probably hung on that hanger in around the early to late 1890's. Annie had all of her gold medals melted down during her later years and gave the money to the needy. The reason this hanger survived is because it was bronze so now we can only imagine what the medal looked like with the original attached fob. The attached medal depicts live bird shooting and clay target shooting of which she did both. | |
